  • Messaging with your care team and ongoing refills

Treatment options

They work in different ways, and many people use both. Results build gradually over several months.

Daily tablet

Finasteride

Lowers DHT, the hormone behind most male-pattern hair loss, to help slow thinning at the crown and hairline.

Topical solution

Minoxidil

Applied to the scalp to lengthen the growth phase of the hair cycle and encourage regrowth where hair is thinning.

Prescription treatment requires an online evaluation by a licensed clinician and is only prescribed when it is medically appropriate. Your clinician decides the treatment and dose.

Important safety information: finasteride and minoxidil

Finasteride is for men only. Women who are or may become pregnant should not handle crushed or broken tablets, because the medicine can cause birth defects in a male baby.

Finasteride may cause decreased sex drive, trouble getting or keeping an erection and changes in ejaculation. Mood changes, including depression, have been reported: tell your clinician if you notice them. Finasteride can lower PSA blood test results, so tell any doctor who orders the test that you take it.

Topical minoxidil can cause scalp irritation, itching and unwanted hair growth on the face. Stop using it and get medical help if you have chest pain, a rapid heartbeat, dizziness or fainting, or swelling of the hands or feet. This is not a complete list of risks.
